It would be a valuable improvement if ATLAS eMAR could store and display completed PRN medication assessments that result in a decision not to administer the medication.
Currently, while the system records when PRN medication is administered and links to the associated assessment, it does not retain or visibly log assessments that conclude medication was not required. This creates a gap in evidencing clinical decision-making, as staff are unable to retrospectively demonstrate that appropriate assessments were carried out and that the decision to withhold medication was justified.
Proposed Enhancement:
When a PRN assessment concludes that medication is not required, a record of that assessment should be saved within the resident’s “Assessments” tab.
This entry should include the rationale for non-administration and time-stamped details, similar to when PRN is given.
Ideally, this data should also be accessible via audit trails or medication review reports to provide full transparency and support compliance with CQC expectations around evidence-based decision-making.
This enhancement would strengthen accountability, improve audit readiness, and offer clearer oversight of residents' needs and clinical judgement in medication administration.
Dear Chris and Aimie
Thank you for your suggestions. Please accept our sincere apologies for not replying sooner.
Following a review of your suggestions we are redisigning the way that PRN Medication Plans, Pre and Post assessments are set up and recorded at the point of administration.
Following a meeting with CQC we have recently made some changes, including changing the default for reviews to 3 months.
We have also resolved the issue where certain fields were populating with your email address.
We will keep you updated with future developments.
Kind Regards
THe Atlas Product Team
In turn to this, adequate generating of reports to PRN medication administration over a 28-30 day period so PBS practitioners can review. Especially for our company who have more than one home on atlas, being able to generate all residents from that company in one report instead of 20-30 seperate ones.
