When signing in new medication, there could be a tick box so we can specify that the medication does not have a bar code to be scan, so this way when giving this medication it will not affect the bar code scan score.

Thank you for your suggestion.
It would be very difficult to differentiate between medication that had been received without a barcode and subsequent medication that come into the home with a barcode. It is possible both set of medication could be in the home at the same time.
With the above in mind when agreeing on Barcode Scanning Percentage targets for care homes it is our recommendation that a target of 90% of all medication administered is selected with barcode scanning. If a home has a unit with a large number of respite residents we are happy to discuss setting a more realistic target.
