The current Atlas eMAR system lacks a dedicated function to define the form of medication when adding supplements. As a result:
Supplements are inconsistently recorded – some are entered in quantity (e.g., tablets), others in mls (e.g., liquids).
In some cases, supplements are added without any unit of measurement or tracking method at all.
This inconsistency creates significant auditing challenges, particularly when verifying usage, stock levels, and administration accuracy.
Introduce a "Form of Medication" selection feature when adding or editing supplements within Atlas eMAR.
Suggested selectable options could include:
Liquid (non-tracked)
Bottle (tracked)
Tablet
Capsule
Powder
Other (with custom input)
This would allow users to distinguish between supplements that should be tracked by volume or container (e.g., bottles) versus those administered as needed (e.g., spoonfuls or mls, non-tracked).
Improved Audit Trails: Clearer records of form and tracking method support more robust auditing.
Consistent Recording: Ensures all staff are recording supplements using standardised criteria.
Enhanced Compliance: Supports medication governance and regulatory inspections by improving accuracy and clarity.
Reduced Errors: Prevents misclassification or duplication of supplement entries.
Dear Chris,
Thank you for your suggestion. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in replying to you.
We would also like to apologise that some items are displaying the incorrect measure, as per your feedback.
We are reviewing the whole criteria of how items are measured and prompted. The aim for this is that we will be able to reintroduce items like ampules and single use eye drops to stock control.
I am afraid that we cannot provide you with a time frame for this at present. However, once I have confirmation of this you we will come back to you.
In the meantime if you identify an item that is not displaying the correct information, mls instead of tablets etc. please can you or one of your staff contact our support team and we will correct the anomaly.
Yours
The Atlas Product Team
